What are IP addresses?

Every device that connects to the Internet (e.g. smartphone, tablet, PC) is assigned an IP address. The IP address depends on what type of Internet service your end device is currently using to connect to the web. It may be the IP address assigned to you by your Internet provide – for example, if you are connecting at home via Wi-Fi. It could also be an IP address that your mobile provider assigns you or the IP address of a provider of a public or private Wi-Fi or other form of Internet access. In its most currently common form (IPv4), an IP address is made up of four digits. Usually, as a private user, your IP address will not stay the same, because your provider will only assign a temporary address to you (“dynamic IP address”). For IP addresses assigned to you for a longer duration (“static IP address”), it is, in principle, easier to allocate user data clearly. Except for the purposes of tracking unauthorized access to our website, we do not, as a basic principle, use this data in a personalized way, but instead use anonymized data to assess which of our web pages are most popular, how many times they are accessed each day, etc.

Duration of data storage

Server log files featuring the data mentioned above are automatically erased after 30 days. We reserve the right to store server log files for a longer duration when circumstances suggest improper or unauthorized access (such as an attempted hack or DDOS attacks).

Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics tool by Google Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics employs cookies to identify your browser.

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your end device by the browser you are using when you access our website. This allows individual services on the website to “identify” you and “remember” the settings you have chosen.

The information generated by the cookies about how you use this website are generally transferred to and stored on a server in the USA. However, we have activated IP anonymization on this website, which means that your IP address is first truncated by Google within EU member countries or other countries party to the agreement on the European Economic Area. The complete IP address is only sent to a Google server in the USA and truncated there in exceptional circumstances. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information to evaluate how you use the website, to collate reports on website activity and to provide to the website owner additional services related to website and Internet usage. The IP address transferred by your browser within the scope of Google Analytics is not combined with other data by Google.

Lawful grounds The processing of your personal data through Google Analytics is based on Art. 6 Para. 1 point f) of the GDPR. This permits the processing of personal data where it serves the “legitimate interests” of the controller, except where these interests are overridden by your fundamental rights, freedoms or interests. Our legitimate interest is the analysis of use of our website. You can prevent the data (including your IP address) generated by the cookie and pertaining to your use of our website being transferred to and processed by Google by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available at the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de

Duration of data storage

The connection to the individual is immediately produced through truncation of the IP addresses, so that only static data are stored.
